Hello everyone! My name is Benton M. Brown.

1) I am the Assistant Dean of the School of Education.

2) I work at Utah Valley University.

3) I am originally from Northwest Arkansas (USA) but have lived in Washington DC, the greater Mississippi Delta, Bath England (UK), and here in Utah.

4) Prior to working in higher education, I was a high school math teacher.

5) When I taught high school, I taught mathematics and statistics. At university, I teach teacher professionalism and multicultural courses.

6) Easy-going (does that count as one?), maybe adaptable.

7) I have traveled to 25 countries; I never left the United States until I was an adult; I am a big fan of college baseball (Go Hogs!), taking photographs, and wonderful visual art (from painting/drawings/sculptures, to movies/TV, and Broadway shows).

8) A great classroom is where students feel included, appreciated for who they are, and are encouraged and fostered to achieve beyond expectations.

9) This is my first GEA Program.

10) One of my favorite adventures was with my wife and young daughter at a local restaurant in Mostar Bosnia Herzegovina where we ate amazing local food overlooking a World Heritage Site while learning the rich and troubled history of the country, region, and people. It was a place we never intended to be but ended up being one of our favorites.

(I couldn't just pick one photo!! In order, my daughter Sybil in Mostar Bosnia Herzegovina, Lake Como Italy, Elmina Castle Ghana, Kefalonia Island Greece, Kotor Montenegro, Grand Palace Bangkok Thailand, my beautiful wife Megan with Sybil at Highclere Castle (Downton Abbey) England, Geysir in Iceland, the Great Wall of China, and one of my favorite spots in the world: Wheal Coates in Cornwall England).
