Hi Everyone,

My name is Cristina Carreño and I am a 5th grade teacher in a Dual Immersion Program at Cherry Hill Elementary, in Alpine School District. I was born and raised in Colombia but I have been here in the States since 1999. I graduated from BYU and I have been teaching for almost 17 years. I teach all subjects this year in English half day and the other half in Spanish. I have been in the Dual program all my career and this is the first year I teach in both languages. It has been a challenge but my students have been an amazing help. One word that might describe me very well is Perseverance. I like to fight and work hard for what I want. My parents and siblings call me capricious but I prefer perseverant. I don't like to give up on things that I know I can do, even though they might sound hard for me. Three things interesting about me is that I love to travel, teach and eat. A great classroom for me is where my kids feel safe, and they learn something new every day. I also love when my students learn and enjoy learning. A great classroom is that one that promotes continue learning. Learning is not only inside the four walls but it goes beyond the classroom. This would be my second trip at GEA, I did the same one my first time but I just went to the main program and the post trip. I would love to be able to do the whole program this time. One of my favorite adventures was a 32 day hike I did in Europe called "El Camino". I started walking in France and finished in Santiago de Compostela in Spain. It was a beautiful and amazing experience for me to walk, get to know new people and enjoy the culture and the food. I am excited to get to know you all.
