Hi, everyone! I’m Emilie, I’m 21 and I am a student majoring in Elementary Education at Weber State University! I also work at an after school program at an elementary school in Davis School District. I currently work with students from grades K-6. This job has made me have absolutely no idea of which grades I would prefer to teach—I think that they’re all so fun in their own ways! My work right now is very focused on social-emotional learning, but I am incorporating more and more creativity-based mathematics as I work on my specialization!

One word that describes me is deliberate. I am someone who thinks everything through, even if it doesn’t always look like it! A fun fact about me is that I am a diehard Taylor Swift fan. I also love reading and writing—my biggest book obsession at the moment is The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue! I borrowed the book from a friend and immediately had to go out and buy a copy of my own once I finished it!

I believe that a great classroom is one where students feel accepted and comfortable enough to be their authentic selves. This opens up their potential to try, to engage, and to connect. I also think that a great classroom is one where the focus is on persevering, not necessarily on always being correct!

My favorite adventure I have been on so far has been to Pittsburgh. I loved how the communities, recreation, and even architecture there were completely different from what I was used to. I had so much fun, learned so much, and hope to go back again some day!

I am currently enrolled in the Nordic Education Experience program with GEA. I am so excited and I absolutely cannot wait to go! This will be my first time ever leaving the country, and I’m so glad that I can share the experience with so many amazing people!
