Hi! I am Lora Cook!

1/2. Executive Director of Global Education Allies.

3. I live in Del Mar, California, but born and raised in Oregon, and I've also lived in Utah, Washington, DC, and Boston.

4. I have primarily taught in Higher Ed

5. My PhD was in Educational Research and Evaluation with a focus on international education program development.

6. Driven

7. I am a new grandma; I was an exchange student in Finland in high school and have had a special connection to that country ever since; and I decided at the age of 17 while in Finland that I wanted to dedicate my life to cultural exchange. I challenged myself to go to at least one country for every year of my life and so far I've been able to keep up with that!

8. A great classroom is where everyone feels that they belong and are seen and valued and can be supported in their learning.

9. I've been on every GEA program EXCEPT China in 2017 and Escalante and Alabama/TN in 2022. Aino and I have swapped groups a number of times in Scandinavia so I haven't always been with every group or gotten to know every participant, but that is my favorite part - to get to know all the amazing participants!

10. One of my favorite GEA adventures was . . . watching a Cirque-type show in Malacca, Malaysia with a group of GEA alumni. It was so magical to be with so many friends I had made over the years and share that together. I just looked around and saw so many smiling faces and was so happy to be part of both the fun and beautiful culture, as well as all the amazing school visits that Aino so meticulously and creatively organizes!
