EASTERN US

FEBRUARY 2020

East Coast USA:

Global and Societal Considerations in Education

European educators and interested U.S. educators will explore the U.S. Capitol, Washington D.C., with a pre-trip to Boston and a post-trip to New York. The program will focus on some of the strengths of the U.S. education system, namely diversity/multicultural education, citizenship and community service/social innovation. We will visit various schools ranging from private elite schools and top universities to schools that have excelled at integrating and empowering a diverse student population. The program will include panel discussions, informal and formal discussions with local educators and community leaders as well as a conference led by Global Education Allies. The program is available to all, but mid-week activities are mainly reserved for Finnish participants.

Global Lessons from Education Allies

Global Education Allies will be hosting our first "Global Lessons from Education Allies" one-day conference in Washington, DC on Tuesday, February 18th. This conference will coincide with our East Coast USA program where several of our educational partners and colleagues from Finland will be visiting the US to collaborate with educators on how we can all learn from one another to find creative and innovative solutions in education.

Presenters will include participants and partners from all of our core programs in Finland and the surrounding Scandinavia and Baltic countries as well as East Africa and most recently Southeast Asia where we took forty of our alumni to Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Cambodia. While the East Coast professional development program will be for our international collaborators and GEA alumni, the one-day conference will be open to any educators who are interested in joining us for this networking event. Accepting proposals from alumni for streams right now.
